Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Software Architect to lead software architecture activities developing/integrating an advanced simulation suite for the assessing multifaceted, system of systems performance of a critical DoD capability. Will be responsible for architecting a software architecture that provides a modular/scalable software solution. Responsible for developing / maintaining / modifying a software framework that supports modular employment of a variety of COTS / GOTS / internally developed simulation capabilities used in the detailed analysis of system of system employment. The resulting software suite will support functional and behavioral analysis for system-level evaluation. Determination of best practices Object oriented and modular approaches Work in, and may lead, a multi-discipline team of 5-10 engineers in the execution of these tasks
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Performs software requirements analysis, system integration activities, leads research, designs, develops and tests software and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancing existing applications, systems or embedded products
Performs technical planning, verification and validation of others work, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
Performs analysis for all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, architecture, user experience, test, installation, operation, maintenance
Applies principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the development of complex solutions
Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into software solutions utilizing whatever development lifecycle techniques or model will yield the optimal results (Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
Applies and champions the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products
Participates as a Subject Matter Expert in internal review of software components and systems
Receives no appreciable instruction on day-to-day work; more often responsible to define the scope, schedule and expectations for the work they execute or lead; assignments may be self-initiated

Demonstrated ability to analyze software system performance requirements and translate them into a highly reliable and extensible software product architecture.
Hands-on experience with creation and maintenance of UML or SysML diagrams and complex interface control documentation.
Extensive experience on a development team using C/C++/Java or other object oriented development languages, specifically designing, implementing or maintaining & improving an OOP based software architecture.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated experience working with High Level Architecture / Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) frameworks, simulating missile defense applications or similar domains (air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, sub-orbital mechanics, etc.). Experience on an Agile software development team. Experience with large-scale software architectures. Experience with software product line engineering approaches. Modeling and analysis experience in aspects of the Ballistic missile defense system (e.g., Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Fire Control, C2BMC, BMDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, etc.). Engineering experience with large, complex systems.
