  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense secret security clearance is required at or soon after the time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Quality Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    Develops and reviews Documents/Procedures/Instructions for conformance to program requirements
    Compares defects against standards and recommends dispositions, verifies compliance of rework
    Collects, organizes and analyzes data to identify trends and recommend updates when necessary

    Supports engineering reviews including drawing reviews to ensure requirements are met
    Leads audits, corrective action / preventive action plan development, and verification of implementation

    Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex technical problems
    Participates in project reviews and meetings including technical design reviews and technical peer reviews

    May provide leadership/direction to other members of the QA team
    Fully understands program and project requirements to ensure flow down and compliance

    Completes part planning to ensure proper flow down of requirements

    Conducts supplier audit/review/evaluation and approval/renewal 

    Works with multiple organizations including Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Program Management, Finance, Configuration Management, and Earned Value

    Regular contact with senior level leadership on the program

    Supports shop floor production and problem resolution including supplier issues

    Witnesses and/or monitors test activities including hardware and software

    Works under minimal supervision 

    Serves as the main quality contact for the program team with leadership for requirements compliance

    Interfaces with customer / prime contractor representatives and suppliers
    Travel may be required

    Security clearance is required

     

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Strong understanding of engineering (electrical, mechanical, software) methods, tools, and standards

    Strong ability to think creatively and strategically, to see the bigger picture
    Strong ability to manage multiple priorities

    Ability to mentor others

    Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 Standard

    Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications
    Excellent written and verbal communications skills
    Strong skills and experience in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    Strong ability to clearly recognize and report issues relevant to quality engineering practices
    Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
    Strong skills in reviewing documents/drawings/instructions for conformance to requirements
    Strong skills in working with teams to reconcile findings and issues
    Knowledge of workmanship standards

    Ability to lead in Root Cause and Corrective / Preventive Analysis
