    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Facilities Operations Specialist.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.




    • Day to day point of contact for Facilities and Real Estate (FRE) to provide operations support for the local business unit(s) as required.  This would include but not limited to attending meetings, space planning, etc.
    • Manage work requests, PM’s and move requests in the FM Systems (IWMS-Integrated Workplace Management System).  Self-perform where reasonable.
    • Manage space plans, completing work and move requests.
    • Engage, manage and oversee contractors to complete any required tasks.  This would include but not limited to janitorial, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, movers, etc.
    • Maintain accurate facilities drawings of site(s).  Make updates to CAD drawings and the IWMS system.  Mark prints and communicate changes to CAD manager if changes are significantly complex and additional help is needed.
    • Using CAD, plan facilities changes for plant, office, and production equipment layouts of facilities and equipment in compliance with laws and regulations
    • Inspects construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules
    • Develops criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes
    • Schedules, designs, coordinates and implements facilities, real estate, environmental projects
    • Determines project requirements and coordinates with internal staff and outside consultants to ensure projects are completed in accordance with contract
    • Participates in conceptualization of complex designs & design modifications
    • Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings
    • Interacts with external design firms and contractors as well internal customers and department leadership 


    • Proficiency with FM Systems
    • Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors
    • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
    • Considerable ability to build productive internal/external working relationships
    • Creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills
    • Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments
    • May provide work direction to other employees; lacks authority to discipline or reward
    • Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues
    • Good basic knowledge of HVAC and Electrical Systems
    • Considerable knowledge of design & drafting standards
    • Considerable knowledge of life safety, building codes, safety, corporate environmental, safety, health policies & procedures, & security 
    • Competent in the use of AutoCAD to produce engineering & design drawings
    • Proactive problem solving skills
    • Considerable ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handles more complex assignments
    • Considerable ability to show initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally conduct facility operations with very little direction
    • Organizational skills
