  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or field, or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a technical writer specializing in logistics materials. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with our customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

     

    What you do:

    Create, develop, plan, write and edit complex operational, instructional, interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs), maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication

    • Research and translate technical information (such as engineering models, drawings, schematics, spreadsheets, etc.) into manuals and/or web-based documents for military standard (MIL STD) documentation, nontechnical and technical end-users
    • Acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals
    • Document engineering processes and specifications by using software developer and engineering documentation to support the writing and publication of hardware and software test procedures, white papers, readme files, etc.
    • Research potential new production tools and third party software by conducting research via the internet, trade journals, seminars, user forums, etc.
    • Communicate assignment status, issues or concerns, including issues of scope, schedule, process, and quality through informal meetings, and emailed status reports to keep the technical documentation lead informed

    What you have:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills to facilitate teamwork
    • Understanding of DoD MIL Standards and S1000D International Standards. Use of style guides and the ability to adhere to and implement such standards to technical documentation
    • Experience with XML publishing/development
    • Experience with editing and production tools
