  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction or Construction Management or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.  Certifications/Licenses LEED, AIA, PE, PMP a plus.


    Due to the nature of work performed, US Citizenship is required.



    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) Facilities and Real Estate (FRE) organization has an immediate opening in

    Fair Lakes, VA for a Workplace Solutions (WPS) Senior Project Manager.  The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to manage complex facilities and workplace improvement projects that support some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    The selected candidate will lead collaborative teams on complex facilities projects associated with our core mission.  In addition to receiving a competitive wage, the WPS Senior Project Manager will work among a talented and accomplished group of colleagues while enjoying a flexible work environment where contributions are recognized and rewarded.




    • Develop and execute project specific and business driven goals, schedules, budgets, strategy and detailed assumptions with methodology for accomplishing and/or managing goals and objectives.
    • Build and maintain rapport with GDMS Engineering, Manufacturing, and Lines of Business to ensure that the scopes of project and outside business forces affecting the project are fully understood.
    • Lead project externally/internally by partnership with:

    -Finance lead to assist in ROI modeling and RPI calculations

    -Facilities Operations manager to ensure ability to commission, run, and maintain all aspects of delivered space

    -BizOps partners (IT, Security, Integration, and Program Performance Management)

    -Internal Communications team regarding project communications, including use of several technology apps

    -Vendors, including, but not limited to, Owner’s Representatives, Construction Managers, Architects,     

     Engineers, General Contractors, Furniture Dealers, Move Managers, Security and IT vendors

    -Real Estate lead to provide due diligence and feasibility insight during the site selection process when required; understand

     lease obligations

    -Strategy lead to understand business needs, investment funnel, proposal support, development of business case

    • Hire, on-board, and manage third party owner’s representation to lead project execution efforts
    • Act as the primary senior level contact with the internal GDMS business unit throughout the duration of the project
    • Identify, manage and mitigate areas of concern regarding potential risk to GDMS business
    • Coordinate necessary due diligence efforts on behalf of the project delivery team, maintaining and delivering all appropriate documentation
    • Lead visioning, programming, and conceptual design phases to inform Initial Plan of Record (scope, schedule, budget)
    • Coordinate internal and external resources to develop a detailed project budget based on historical and market data and clearly defined set of budget assumptions
    • Develop and maintain Integrated Master Schedules and manage the successful execution of projects so that completion falls within intended time frames. Partner with business to identify risks, analyze probability, and agree upon necessary mitigation measures to satisfy program requirements
    • Prepare various RFPs needed for vendor and contractor services as well as manage the contractor and vendor selection process
    • Facilitate initiation of all critical project meetings and coordination exercises with internal staff, key stakeholders and external users
    • Manage project performance against schedules, scheduled milestones and critical path items on multiple projects. Manage vendor and project team performance to ensure compliance with program requirements
    • Test, learn, and provide feedback in all process improvement initiatives
    • Demonstrate thought leadership and continuing education in workplace strategy trends, studies, and initiatives to evolve GDMS workplace through change leadership and stakeholder engagement

    • Strong working knowledge of architectural drawings, furniture and space planning concepts
    • Ability to manage all aspects of construction projects effectively and efficiently including, but not limited to budget, schedule, procurement, and risk mitigation
    • Fully competent at managing all types/sizes of projects, including, but not limited to building expansions, occupied renovations, secure (SCIF) construction, agile workplace implementation, manufacturing spaces and labs
    • Extensive knowledge of MS Office applications and MS Project
