    Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

     

     

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Surface Ship Advanced Systems Engineer.  In this role you will work as part of an integrated Command and Control Team on various technical tasks and design efforts for the Littoral Combat Ship Program and Surface Ship Programs; supporting design Investigations and efforts related to the Integrated Combat Management Systems and its associated Weapons and Sensors. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    This opportunity will allow you to join the growing Surface Ship Team in Pittsfield MA. You will be working on Navy Ships including the Independence Variant of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF), and potential new Navy Platforms. The core mission system of the Littoral Combat Ship Independence Variant is built on General Dynamics' computing infrastructure. Our computing technology controls everything from ship navigation to firing weapons, and is designed to maximize automation, enabling sailors to focus on their missions. You will be involved with the end-to-end design, production, delivery, and sustainment of the ships and work closely with the customer and sailors as the end user of the product to ensure mission alignment and product quality.     REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Performs requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of subsystem or system elements under supervision of the lead systems engineer
    • Performs technical design, planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements
    • Performs customer requirements analysis, develops system requirements and defines allocations to lower levels (elements and components)
    • Performs detailed technical analyses for a subsystem or system elements
    • May develop system documentation on both new and fielded systems
    • Researches and analyzes data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
    • Leads and contributes to modeling and simulation activities
    • Will provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
    • Independently determines proposed approach to solutions
    • Contributes and drives the completion of major programs and projects
    • Creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills
    • Designs/Architects a complete and complex framework, system or product
    • Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses
    • Contact with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within the Engineering department and with project teams across the company
    • Travel may be required
    • Keeps abreast of technology trends
    • Contributes to the achievement of business objectives and new business opportunities
    • Contributes to the development of new theories and technology methods when applicable
    • Leads and contributes to modeling and simulation activities

    • Ability to take on leadership role for small to medium size tasks and projects.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Solid understanding of Microsoft Windows Desktop (Windows 7, 10) and Server (2008, 2016) technologies including experience with traditional software delivery and application installation processes and configurations
    • Experience integrating software on a common operating system
    • DOORS experience


    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
