  • Basic Qualifications

    Associate's degree in related discipline or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.


    Additionally, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for a controlled billet in accordance with DoD Instruction 5210.42 Personnel Reliability Program (PRP). 


    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry,
    Open to new ideas and can serve as a champion for change and acts to support change when directed from management
    Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains mechanical equipment, components, devices, or systems
    Performs a variety of equipment/process operations involving an application or technical skills in a specific area (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, etc.)
    Interprets complex engineering drawings, diagrams and schematics, and understand the necessary interfaces
    Performs complex system level troubleshooting to component level
    Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions
    Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions
    Assists in development of revised product and programs
    Defines performance capabilities of new equipment or processes
    Defines complicated /unique preventative maintenance tasks
    Utilizes a variety of systems to perform design and processing functions
    Directs others in the performance of preventive and corrective maintenance to accomplish unique tasks
    Develops training plan programs for new technicians
    Demonstrates leadership and initiative in actions
    Can be expected to lead, direct, organize Technician work
    Works with associates in other departments and understands cross-functional relationships
    May have minimal contact with customer
    Lays out, builds, calibrates, adjusts, installs and maintains equipment, components, devices or systems
    Analyzes results and develops procedures for problems
    May develop test specifications and procedures
    May prepare reports, documentation/specifications as required

    Develops maintenance schedules 

    As a skilled specialist, completes tasks in resourceful and effective ways
    Strong knowledge in specialized mechanical functions
    Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions
    A wide and comprehensive acquaintance with, and strong understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered
    Minimal supervision required
    Contacts are frequent with individuals representing outside organizations, and/or individuals of significant importance within the company
    Contacts involve planning and preparation of the communications, require skill, tact, persuasion and/or negotiation to accomplish the objectives of the communications
    Understand practical applications of material properties
    Strong proficiency in application and interpretation of complex specifications, requirements, standards and practices
    Strong knowledge in specialized functions

    Understands electrical-mechanical interfaces
