    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Materials & Process Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



    • Contributes to the generation and maintenance of mechanical hardware and material work products (i.e. plans, specifications, design documentation, etc.) used for internal consumption and/or deliverable to external customers
    • Develops and presents mechanical hardware and material requirements, concepts, designs, decisions and results to internal management and external customers
    • Substantial contribution to electrical reviews of mechanical hardware, equipment and systems
    • Evaluates supplier capability to support product development
    • Participation in the improvement of the mechanical engineering and manufacturing organizational processes
    • Supports the generation of engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools
    • Contributes to the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Selects mechanical hardware and materials based on analysis of requirements
    • Independently determines approach to solutions
    • Generally works with multiple work groups, including with senior levels of l work groups
    • Generally works on diverse range of complex problems under limited direction
    • Generally has regular Contact with project leaders and Program Managers. Generally has Some contact with external customers


    • Participates in a Failure Review Board (FRB) as a team member
    • Analyze material failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of failure for composite products.
    • Prepare and effectively present highly technical and complex engineering reports and estimates verbally and in writing
    • Assists with projects through the development and production of major programs
    • Participates in the development of engineering drawings to review and approve GD&T schematics and make recommendations regarding tolerances and manufacturing processes.
    • Utilizes Microsoft spreadsheets on a daily basis to identify, organize and manage parts and materials requirements/attributes for programs
    • Travel may be required

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering
    • Lead the development of strategic tasks or small projects by applying engineering and organizational knowledge and expertise to achieve technical goals.
    • Advises and confers with engineers in design review meetings to give materials and processes selection, analysis and test recommendations
    • Generates formal technical reports per Government standards in accordance with Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) requirements
    • Supports material and mechanical part-level failure analysis and root cause analysis and working with suppliers/projects to identify corrective action and recovery plans
    • Primarily create and maintain process and material, specifications including raw material specifications for printed wire board (PWB) materials and PWB assembly materials used in aerospace PWB assemblies.  Secondarily, create and maintain process, material, and equipment specifications for adhesive bonding and coating applications (Epoxy & Polymer experience)
    • Ability to apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications for fabrication and assembly processes
