    Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or field or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Mechanical CAD Design Specialist to support our growing Ground Systems line of business.  Key duties of this position includes knowledge of Pro-E/CREO and CAD management tool Windchill/PDMLink.  Knowledge and proficiency of ASME Y14.5 and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) are extremely important.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    Develops and applies computer aided design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems
    Defines and selects new approaches and implementation of CAD software engineering applications and design specifications and parameters
    Leads or contributes as an individual technical contributor on a small design or test team
    Creates new and/or revises existing designs, drawings, and bills of material for our products
    Interfaces/Collaborates with Employees and Manager within the department, Engineering, Program Management, External Vendors and Customers
    Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems
    Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives
    Works under only general direction
    Independently determines and develops approach to solutions
    Travel to customers/ suppliers may be required

    Competent in all aspects of respective design domain
    Fully proficient knowledge source in the use of the strategic CAD and file management tools
    Fully proficient knowledge in the use of current strategic CAD tools (Pro-E/Creo or Solid Works preferred)
    Competent in all aspects of mechanical design, part fabrication and assembly of electronics
    Consistently applies technical knowledge base to solving problems
    Fully proficient knowledge of design documentation standards (e.g ASME Y14.5M, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
    Fully proficient knowledge of mechanical stress; structural, thermal and tolerance analysis
    Accomplished at developing / integrating new ideas, optimizing alternatives, and establishing backup plans
    Establishes and meets goals that are consistent with business objectives
    Consistency in concept to design skills
    Effectively balances risks taken with sound logic under own initiative
    Solution-oriented approach to analyzing technical problems that affect team
    Possesses Problem solving and collaborative skills
    Demonstrates initiative, applies personal talent to practical solutions
    Works within the trade space defined (cost / schedule / technology)
    Applies knowledge effectively in team environment
