  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations.

    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Strategy and Business Development Manager in the Satellite Communications area.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    • Leads business development activities of products and/or services to government agencies, Large Prime System Integrators, commercial and international firms   
    • Maintains key business development contacts with current and potential customers
    • Evaluates and manages new business opportunities, initiatives, partnerships, alliances and/or joint ventures
    • Oversees market analysis, monitors competitive activity, and identifies customer needs
    • Serves as capture manager for assigned opportunities
    • Defines vision, strategies, and tactics for assigned business development opportunities
    • Assists in the formulation of advertising campaigns and approves publicity releases and promotional activities
    • Advises higher management on status or action required in connection with existing and potential business development opportunities
    • Develops and administers schedules, performance requirements; responsible for budgets.
    • Provides leadership in the planning, designing, due diligence, and implementing of strategic business objectives
    • Directs the development of short- and long-range objectives and recommends goals to higher management

    • Supports creation of business strategies for growth
    • Demonstrates understanding of business strategies and technical issues as they relate to business growth
    • Substantial knowledge of Satellite Communications missions, products and technologies including current and future applications
    • Able to articulate examples of having identified, pursued and won medium to large capture efforts in areas related to GDMS business
    • Substantial understanding of specific areas within assigned market, to include budgets, customer priorities, mission gaps and market dynamics
    • Maintains a substantial of government contracting and acquisition practices
    • Able to thrive in a highly interactive team environment
    • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration and leadership skills
    • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with customers and internal counterparts
    • May require an understanding of international business and export processes
    • Works well under pressure with the ability to simultaneously deliver on multiple tasks and/or priorities
    • Responsible for establishing and achieving operational objectives for area of responsibility
    • Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements
    • Expected to integrate highly complex activities within their discipline and across functional and project boundaries
    • Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives
    • Direct oversight of a complex function or project of moderate size and significant complexity or GDMS wide impact
    • Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers
    • Interacts frequently with internal and external management and senior-level customer representatives concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, and/or contractual clarifications Strategy & Business Development
    • Leads briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives
    • Demonstrates and uses a depth of organizational knowledge that results in superior performance in delivery of products, services or proposals to customers or collaboration across functions
    • Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship
    • Assignments are objective oriented. Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect
    • Work is reviewed in terms of meeting the organization’s objectives and timelines
    • Senior management reviews objectives to determine success of operation
    • Decisions have an extended impact on work processes and outcomes
    • Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations, cause substantial expenditure of additional time, human resources, and funds; and jeopardize future business activity
    • Exercises supervision in terms of costs, methods, and staffing
    • In some instances this manager may have subordinate managers
    • Relies on resources external to the department or GDMS for implementation
    • Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegate’s assignments to subordinates
    • Manages subordinate management and/or experienced specialist employees who exercise significant latitude and independence
    • May have responsibility for managing people, including performance evaluations and pay increase recommendations
    • May also be responsible for hire/fire decisions
