    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Mid-career Software Engineer to develop and maintain advanced tools suites use to model and analyze performance of the Ballistic Missile Defense System.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



    The Tool Development Software Engineer performs a wide variety of tasks developing, maintaining and integrating specialized mathematical-based modeling and simulation in support of the Missile Defense Agency’s mission area. The selected individual will perform in a team environment assisting the development of performance concepts and requirements for advanced capabilities of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) in a model based systems engineering environment. Modeling and simulation tasks will support end-to-end performance analysis of the BMDS. Individual will also lead development, updating, and benchmarking/anchoring of BMDS M&S tools to support system analysis tasks. Individual will conduct technical meetings with government and industry subject matter experts to analyze and formulate analysis tools and techniques to represent system-level performance. This position is in Huntsville, AL. Secret clearance required

    Performs software requirements analysis, system integration activities, leads research, designs, develops and tests software and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancing existing applications, systems or embedded products


    Individual must have a strong technical background in software development and multi-component software integration.   Must demonstrate 10+ years of software development experience with languages such as C++, C#, Python or Java within a structured software development process (CMMI Level 3 or higher preferred). Candidate must demonstrate ability to think critically to develop and capture concepts in technical papers, presentations, and discussions. Individual must possess good oral and written communication skills. Capable of working in focused teams as an independent individual contributor.


    Addtional Desired Skills and Abilities:

    Numerical modeling and simulation using a high level programming language such as MATLAB, or similar language environment. Strongly prefer 10+ years of modeling and simulation experience, include 6DOF level of fidelity for complex DoD or Aerospace applications such as simulating missile defense applications or similar domains (air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, sub-orbital mechanics, etc.). Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems ((e.g., aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.), a discriminator in selection. Experience operating under an Agile development methodology preferred. Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems desired


    Degree and experience in an engineering classification, especially software engineering or a related discipline: Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD

    Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is required at time of hire. A Top Secret clearance is strongly preferred.  Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
