    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies located in State College PA is seeking a Senior Advanced Electrical Engineer to join our product design team. We only consider highly self-motivated candidates that perform without appreciable direction. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong technical background with proven experience and possess the ability to lead a small development team.

    As part of the team, the candidate will play a key role throughout the product development process.

    The selected candidate will deliver innovative, flexible, integrated electronic designs to meet changing technical specifications for our new microwave products, support and engage in complex system designs, and will follow industry research and development trends to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems’ products and services remain at the cutting edge of the microwave communications industry.

     

    Representative Duties and Tasks:

    • Provide significant technical contribution to the design of electronics for our legacy and newly developed microwave communications systems
    • Design electronic circuitry including, but not limited to: switching and linear power supplies, analog device bias supplies, sequencing and timing circuitry, analog and digital control circuitry, serial communication circuitry, advanced digital communications interfaces, etc.
    • Circuit design work will include developing schematics, block diagrams and timing diagrams, debugging PCBs using test equipment (DVM, scopes, function generators), performing circuit simulation and system modeling and analysis, and design work involving system grounding/shielding and EMI mitigation techniques
    • Design work may include specification and design of advanced digital electronics including FPGA-based design and microcontroller based systems
    • Evaluate and design to common commercial and military standards (e.g. EMC compliance standards for electronic products)
    • Substantial contribution to electrical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, performance analysis, interface analysis and definition for the design, integration and verification of components, equipment and systems.
    • Responsible and accountable for the technical planning, scheduling, cost analysis, risk analysis and successful execution of small electronic subsystems of a larger project or system containing substantial electronic content
    • Plan and lead engineering root cause analysis for complex electrical performance issues, conducts experimental tests, evaluates results to formulate and implement solutions to issues
    • Substantial contribution to the generation and maintenance of technical documentation deliverable to external customers
    • Develops and presents requirements, concepts, designs, decisions and results to internal management, other organizations, teammates and external customers
    • Provide contributions to technical subcontract management that may include SOW development, proposal evaluation, source selection, technical oversight, and subcontractor work product evaluation and acceptance
    • Leads reviews of components, equipment and systems
    • Evaluates vendor capability to support product development
    • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle
    • Leads the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
    • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments
    • Guides the successful completion of programs and projects
    • Generally works with multiple work groups, including with senior levels of work groups
    • Generally works on diverse range of complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity without appreciable direction
    • Generally has regular contact with project leaders and Program Managers and Senior Managers including external customers
    • May function in a project leadership role and may supervise lower level employees
     

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in RF/Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience
    • Experience with developing circuits using basic analog circuit design CAD tool/programs (Spice, LTSpice, etc)
    • Familiarity with basic circuit board processing and assembly
    • Up to 15% occasional travel may be required

    ·         Shows initiative on assignments, exercises excellent independent judgment

     

    Qualifications (Optional)

    Additional consideration is given for candidates with significant experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • RF or Microwave design using linear analysis CAD tools (e.g, Genesys, AWR MWO, Ansys tool suites)
    • Project management tools such as Microsoft Project
    • Experience with developing miniature microwave circuitry (i.e., chip and wire assembly)
    • Experience with miniature integrated RF assembly techniques and procedures
    • Experience in the preparation of technical documents for potential major program proposal
    • Understands and applies basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls
