Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Lead Electrical Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Substantial contribution to electrical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. timing, power, etc.), design, integration and verification of electrical components, equipment and systems
Plans and leads electrical engineering root cause analysis for electrical issues, conducts experimental tests, evaluates results to formulate and implement solutions to issues
Contributes to the generation and maintenance of electrical work products (i.e. plans, specifications, design documentation, etc.) used for internal consumption and/or deliverable to external customers
Develops and presents electrical requirements, concepts, designs, decisions and results to internal management and external customers
May contribute to technical subcontract management that may include technical oversight and subcontractor work product evaluation
Substantial contribution to electrical reviews of electrical components, equipment and systems
Evaluates vendor capability to support product development
Participation in the improvement of the electrical organizational processes
Supports the generation of engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle
Contributes to the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
Selects components and equipment based on analysis of requirements
May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
Independently determines approach to solutions
Plans and executes project tasks for activities described above
Generally works with multiple work groups, including with senior levels of l work groups
Generally works on diverse range of complex problems under limited direction
Generally has regular Contact with project leaders and Program Managers. Generally has Some contact with external customers
Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause significant delays or require the substantial expenditure of resources
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proficient use and understanding of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and theories
Proficient in the principles and techniques of Electrical Engineering
Proficient understanding of electrical engineering processes
Strong understanding and experience with electrical design and manufacturing standards (IEEE, UL, MIL, etc.)
Strong understanding and practical experinece with EMI/EMC requirements (e.g. MIL-STD-461)
Experience and working understanding of power systems and power supplies requirements, including 3 phase power
Experience with operating standard test equipment and/or development of custom test equipment
Solid experience with electrical requirements testing, verification, and test procedure development and generation
Experience, knowledge, and execution of engineering development and lifecycle processes
Lead and support engineering design reviews and presentations
Proficient knowledge of other related disciplines
Keeps abreast of technology trends
Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications
Proficient in electrical engineering design and analysis tools
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance
Ability to multi-task
Skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
Ability to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound electrical engineering design
Able to sell concepts and ideas
Travel may be required
DOD Security clearance required
Understands and applies basic project management principles including IMS, earned value and score cards
ADDITIONAL/DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience with submarine subsystems and equipment.
SONAR systems and Towed Array knowledge and experience.
Solid understanding, experience, and working knowledge of the AN/BQQ-10 SONAR system.
