Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Systems Administration, and/or related field or equivalent experience.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a SRE Specialist (new college grad). This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Consults and collaborates with business leaders, end users, IT staff, vendors and other third parties and is involved in every phase of an application throughout its lifecycle
Their responsibilities include job automation, running batch jobs, running SQL scripts, reviewing logs, system and application monitoring, maintenance, patch management, software upgrades, file transfers, backups, incident/problem troubleshooting and support
Performs operational support responsibilities including application maintenance, application configuration and performance tuning, account management, installation of software upgrades, user support, and systems monitoring
Ensures that the application layer is optimally configured for seamless integration and operability with OS, database, middleware, network, Web services, and other interrelated technological components
Engages with the various teams to - performs application health checks to ascertain application accessibility, server availability, capacity planning, monitor scheduled job, batch jobs, systems alerts, upstream/downstream feed status
Responds to incident tickets, user inquiries and services requests
Monitors system alerts, system utilization thresholds, capacity utilization on servers etc.
Works with the application vendors to obtain knowledge of the vendor's planned changes, existing problems and known errors, corrective action and work around alternatives, and technical support capabilities
Performs other duties as directed
Moderate business travel required
Works with various customers to understand critical path items, and create Health check metrics and dashboards
Programs and supports automation tasks to reduce Toil in the IT environment.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Evidence of ability to follow detailed task direction and instructions on tasks of limited scope using entry level understanding of the Applications Admin discipline
Basic knowledge of SQL scripts and other scripting languages
Demonstrates personally accountable behavior and shows initiative and enthusiasm on assignments
Clear & concise oral & written communication skills
Has basic understanding of IT Infrastructure technology, as well an understanding of cloud functionality
