    Associate’s degree in related discipline or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

     

    Department of Defense TS/SCI Security Clearance with Polygraph is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Environmental Test Technician in our Scottsdale, AZ location.  

     

    Responsibilities: The Environmental Test Technician will primarily perform testing of highly complex, highly-reliable ground electronics, aircraft electronics and spaceflight payload electronics using shock and vibration test systems, temperature chambers, humidity testing systems, rain testing systems, altitude chambers and thermal vacuum chambers. Tasks include developing and preparing results and an understanding of test specifications.

     

     

    Basic Qualifications:  Knowledge of shock and vibration test systems, temperature chambers, humidity testing, rain testing, altitude chambers.

     

    Ability to interpret MIL STD’s, project/customer test specifications

     

    Must be able to set up, conduct and monitor both dynamic and climatic environmental tests that include the following:

     

    1. Acceleration
    2. Bench handling
    3. Explosive decompression
    4. Immersion
    5. Shock – drop, pyro, mechanical, & synthesized
    6. Rain – dripping & blowing
    7. Corrosion (salt fog)
    8. Temperature – altitude, cycling, storage, humidity, & shock
    9. Thermal vacuum
    10. Thermal vibration
    11. Transportation (bounce)
    12. Vibration – random, sine, sine-on-random, random-on-random

     

    The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for many of the tests listed above, due to the loud nature of the testing and equipment involved (compressors, blowers, pumps, solenoids, etc…), chemicals, mass of test fixturing and test items, or exposure to extreme heat and cold (cryogenic). The job requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and the ability to utilize various common hand tools (pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc…). A thorough knowledge of both climatic and dynamic test methods, specifications, and associated equipment is required. The ability to accurately and legibly record test data gathered from a variety of computer controlled data acquisition hardware is also necessary.

     

    General maintenance and repair (mechanical & electrical) of major test equipment is required. This includes annual preventive maintenance and periodic repairs due to equipment failure. A knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulic/compressed gas systems, cryogenic fluids, mechanical systems, and the safety associated when working around this type of equipment is required.

     

    • Good computer skills and knowledge of Windows and MS Office are required
    • Must be able to interpret complex environmental test procedures
    • Must be able to interface daily with engineering and may be tasked to run special tests for engineering
    • Candidate should demonstrate skills and initiative to complete actions
    • Must be able to manage time effectively in order to support multiple projects throughout the work day
    • Candidate must be able to work successfully with associates in other departments and understand cross-functional relationships

     

    Required Key Skills: Strong background in environmental test techniques. Knowledgeable use of systems to test equipment for shock and vibration, temperature, humidity, salt-fog and thermal-vacuum is required. Candidate must be able to read and follow detailed work instructions and/or test procedures. Second and/or third shift coverage will be required for most assignments.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Has a solid understanding of the job skills and learns company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks
    •Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations 
    •Focus is on completing tasks or activities supporting implementation of procedures
    •Receives little instruction on daily work with general instructions on newly introduced assignments
    •May provide direction to other employees with similar duties
