Basic Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 15+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 13 years of job-related experience.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a TS clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

The MUOS User Objective System (MUOS) is US Space Force narrowband military satellite communications system providing voice and data communications for U.S. forces anytime, anywhere.  General Dynamics Mission Systems developed the integrated ground segments for MUOS, which provides cell phone-like communications for warfighters on the move. 

 

As Chief Engineer for MUOS, you'll leverage your extensive technical expertise to propel our MUOS Sustainment and R&D initiatives forward. Your responsibilities will span from crafting technical strategies and driving product innovations to spearheading technical responses to proposals and nurturing client relationships and the next generation of engineers.

In this role, you'll oversee intricate technology development and steer design processes, recommending advancements to replace end-of-life hardware. Renowned as an industry expert, you'll also:

  • Collaborate closely with Business Development to shape strategy and maintain regular engagement with Government sponsors, industry partners, and technical personnel.
  • Deliver technical responses to government and commercial proposals.
  • Foster collaboration among GDMS Chief Engineers across business lines on common technical issues and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop comprehensive technical strategies, roadmaps, and product development plans.
  • Lead in-depth studies aimed at advancing MUOS to a 5G network architecture and upgraded ground system.
  • Provide technical leadership in designing, analyzing, implementing, testing, and sustaining capabilities in this adapted 3G WCDMA cellular system for the military and associated ground system.
  • Deliver quick and thorough resolution of non-conformances and other challenges that might arise, including leading failure investigations and presentation of findings to internal and customer review boards.
  • Mentor and guide engineering team members to foster their professional growth.

  • Team Presence: While the bulk of our team operates from the General Dynamics Mission Systems facility in Scottsdale, AZ, we strongly prefer this role to be ON-SITE in Scottsdale, AZ.
  • Hybrid Flexibility: A hybrid work schedule may be feasible, contingent upon a minimum of 2 days per week on-site.

Salary Note

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Combined Salary Range

USD $209,255.80 - USD $232,143.20 /Yr.
