Basic Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 8+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years of job-related experience.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

As a Sr Advanced Mechanical Engineer - Cabinets, you’ll be part of a small cross functional team responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical systems and components of transmit equipment. The design team will ensure the unit meets all functional requirements, performance characteristics and for the completion of program design milestones. You will collaborate with design engineering, production engineering, subject matter experts and others in the development of this high power electronic amplifier system to ensure we meet the customers high expectations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs design and development in such areas as mechanical, hydraulic, thermodynamic or heat transfer
  • Performs various design trades studies for the development and production of mechanical and/or electromechanical unit systems.
  • Familiarity with various cooling and pressure compensation systems using water or alternative fluids.
  • Substantial contribution to the generation and maintenance of mechanical work products for mechanical designs, systems and components (i.e. plans, specifications, cabinet/ cabling/ component drawings, design documentation, etc.)
  • Design and develop cabinet configuration options to meet project requirements and industry standards.
  • Evaluate and compare various cabinet design trade studies for enclosures for various applications, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Conduct weight estimation for mechanical systems and components to ensure compliance with project specifications and constraints.
  • Design for serviceability space, ensuring ease of maintenance and accessibility for mechanical systems and components.
  • Perform research trade studies analyses of data, in support of customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals, to determine feasibility of the design
  • Create and review system and hardware design documentation such as schematics, interface control drawings, assembly drawings and other technical documents to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards throughout the design and development process.
  • Synthesizes solutions to meet customer expectations and technical performance while staying within schedule and cost constraints.
  • Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to integrate mechanical systems into larger projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to mechanical systems and components.

What you bring to the table:

Required:

  • Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks) for designing and developing mechanical systems and components.
  • Fully proficient with solid modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and accompanying drawings.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools for validating and optimizing designs.
  • Fully proficient with technical standards, MIL SPEC standards, manufacturing/fabrication methods, government/industry standards.
  • Knowledge of materials science and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Desired / Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of weight estimation techniques and tools.
  • Experience with component configuration designs requiring pressure compensation.
  • Experience with designing for serviceability space and ensuring ease of maintenance.
  • Experience with designing for harsh environments, such as undersea or aerospace applications.
  • Knowledge of thermal management and heat transfer principles.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing and 3D printing technologies.
  • Familiarity with machine learning or artificial intelligence techniques as applied to mechanical engineering.

Salary Note

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Combined Salary Range

USD $152,500.00 - USD $172,500.00 /Yr.
