Basic Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related Science or Mathematics field. Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:  Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Advanced Quality Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Designs, implements, and maintains quality assurance protocols and methods for processing materials into partially finished or finished products
  • Designs methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of production processes, production equipment and finished products 
  • Performs analysis of reports and production data to identify trends and recommend updates or changes to quality standards and procedures when necessary
  • Provides technical review of documents, drawings, assembly instructions, and project plans
  • Compares defects against standards and recommends dispositions, verifies implementation of rework
  • Collects, organizes and analyzes project data, generates and/or reviews metrics
  • Performs audits, assigns corrective action, and verifies implementation
  • Participates in project reviews and meetings including technical design reviews, technical peer reviews, material review boards, change control boards, failure review boards
  • Participates in continuous improvement and problem solving activities within the project
  • Reviews documents/Drawings/Instructions for conformance to requirements
  • May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
  • Witnesses and/or monitors test activities
  • Contributes to the completion of major programs and projects
  • Regular contact with senior levels of internal work groups
  • Works under limited direction 
  • Contact with project leaders and other professionals within Engineering and Operations departments, and with project teams across the company
  • Frequent contact with external customers
  • Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems
  • Works as an individual technical contributor on one or more projects
  • Recognized as an authority in a specific domain of expertise (e.g. hardware or software engineering)
  • Participates as an active member of the project team
  • Independently determines approach to solutions
  • Travel may be required


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Highly proficient knowledge of domain (hardware, software, systems, logistics, manufacturing) methodologies, tools, and standards
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008, CMMI, ISO 14001ASME, ANSI, EIA, etc. 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Highly proficient written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Contributes to the achievement of business objectives
  • Highly proficient skill in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
  • Highly proficient ability to clearly report relevant information using quality engineering tools
  • Ability to sell concepts and ideas
  • Proficient knowledge of interpretation of drawings
  • Highly proficient skill in reviewing documents/drawings/instructions for conformance to requirements techniques 
  • Highly proficient skill in reporting quality activities, findings, and issues both in writing and verbally
  • Highly proficient interpersonal skills


Additional Information: Familiarity with Root Cause and Corrective Action tools such as 5-Whys, Fault tree Analysis, etc. would be a plus. Also, the ability to mine data using Excel and Pivot tables would be advantageous.

Salary Note

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Combined Salary Range

USD $113,873.00 - USD $126,327.00 /Yr.
