Overview:
A Manufacturing Materials Manager oversees production planning, material control, and workflow coordination to meet program and customer delivery requirements. They lead cross-functional teams, manage departmental goals, and drive continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring efficient resource utilization and effective conflict resolution.
Key Responsibilities:
• Managing an exempt and represented team and conducting meaningful performance management, career development discussions, communication meetings and recognitions
• Maintaining and improving our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system functionality
• Responsible for planning, stockroom, shipping and receiving functions
• Develop and implement key process indicators for departmental performance to support the facility's business goals and objectives, and to drive optimization of the department's performance to meet the objectives
• Review production schedules and current staffing to determine personnel and materials requirements and priorities
• Provide leadership in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing to drive cultural transformation, process/system improvements and cost reductions
• Develop and deploy standard processes, based upon industry best practices, to ensure proper function and results with the various departments, specifically with the planning functions
• Ensures all project timelines are met or exceeded
• Participate in development of business strategy plan and implementation
• Manage the effective deployment of materials to the manufacturing floor using lean manufacturing strategies
• Ensure all materials are available when needed through systematic elimination of the root causes of part shortage problems, through collaboration with supply chain management
• Train and develop materials team
• Prepare and present evaluations to employees and set expectations for successful job performance
• Engage with Production Managers, Program Managers, Engineering, Supply Chain and other departments to assess current progress and discuss needed changes to meet our Customer requirements
• Oversee Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) audits and ensure Material Management and Accounting System (MMAS) compliance
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Experience in employee development and performance management
• Working knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)/Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems, factory operating objectives, workforce scheduling and inventory control systems
• Experience with Purchasing, Inventory Control, Cycle Count Programs, Bill of Material & Routing Management
• Advanced ability to develop/manage organizational strategies/initiatives to meet department goals
• Must be able to understand and track financial/budget data and staffing requirements.
• Performs labor forecasts, material forecasts, and creates staffing plans.
• Ability to effectively communicate information verbally and in writing, ensuring clarity and understanding among diverse stakeholders, including team members, senior management, and external partners.
• Utilizes advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools to create detailed reports, presentations, and data analysis to support project planning and decision-making processes.
• Experience to identify root cause and implement new processes to help streamline manufacturing
• A working knowledge and demonstrated practice of Lean Manufacturing Systems and principles
• Ability to effectively communicate information verbally and in writing, ensuring clarity and understanding among diverse stakeholders, including team members, senior management, and external partners.
• A high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and motivate associates
