Job Description

 

ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES

This high-visibility Engineering Management role offers the opportunity to lead a team of Deputy Program Manager Engineers (DPMEs) and drive development of complex, next-generation DoD systems. The role provides technical leadership, manages resources, and drives continuous improvement while aligning engineering activities with business goals.

The Engineering Manager leads a team of 15–20 DPMEs, ensuring excellence in project management and performance across all Airborne Systems Programs, while also serving as a direct DPME for assigned program(s).

 

Position Objectives:

Drive Program Planning and Execution

  • Ensure development of executable project plans  including resource-loaded IMS and EVMS planning for Agile programs
  • Develop mechanisms to monitor project progress and drive problem identification and resolution, including performance assessment (technical, cost, scope, and schedule) across all Airborne Systems programs
  • Support DPMEs in overcoming execution barriers and driving course corrections
  • Manage program execution, including leading assigned Engineering Status Reviews (ESRs) and Program Reviews
  • Proactively identify technical and organizational risks and ensure incorporation into risk mitigation plans
  • Successfully manage assigned complex development projects encompassing Systems, Embedded Hardware, and Software development
  • Develop effective partnerships with Business Program Managers, SMEs, Engineering Managers, Business Development, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing Operations
  • Drive continuous improvement in planning and execution processes
  • Participate in the proposal process, including development of program and teaming strategies

Lead, Mentor, and Grow the DPME Team

  • Lead and develop the Airborne Systems DPME Team, ensuring individual career growth and expanded depth and breadth of DPME capabilities
  • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient team operation
  • Directly mentor DPMEs and/or establish mentor/mentee relationships
  • Drive Quarterly Check-Ins (QCIs), goal establishment, frequent review of employee work, and participation in performance appraisals
  • Manage and balance resource supply to anticipate and stay ahead of resource demand, including identifying near-term and long-term DPME candidates, recruiting, and hiring while ensuring individual performance
  • Support Senior Engineering Managers (SEMs) in developing annual goals, with strong emphasis on DPME career development and program execution goals

What Sets You Apart

  • 10+ years of project management experience leading hardware and software development teams
  • 5+ years of related technical experience
  • 3+ years of direct Engineering personnel management experience
  • Proficiency in MS Project
  • Experience with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • Demonstrated leadership, motivational, and mentoring skills
  • PMP Certification
  • Active Secret Clearance

Salary Note

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Combined Salary Range

USD $194,276.00 - USD $215,525.00 /Yr.
