Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a talented and motivated Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the design, development, and integration of advanced systems aboard surface vessels. In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing and integrating complex shipboard systems across a variety of functional domains, working across the full product lifecycle to deliver mission-critical solutions to our customers.  If you're passionate about engineering complex systems, thrive in collaborative environments, and want to make a real impact on naval surface vessel programs, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring our surface vessel systems are robust, secure, and mission-ready. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying, analyzing, and developing system designs across multiple shipboard domains
  • Supporting system verification and validation test activities
  • Generating technical engineering products using appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
  • Participating in requirements analysis, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration, and verification testing
  • Performing interface definition studies of system components and products
  • Planning and executing sub-tasks across all phases of system development
  • Contributing to the shaping of future products by influencing the frameworks and processes used across multiple programs

What We're Looking For (Required Qualifications)

  • Proficiency in the use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • Experience with requirements management and system modeling tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment throughout the product life cycle – from pre-proposal through post-delivery support
  • Ability to quickly grasp and apply new information and handle complex assignments efficiently
  • Ability to identify opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation

Preferred Qualifications

We encourage you to apply even if you have only some of the following experiences. We value diverse backgrounds and are committed to developing our engineers:

  • Experience with sensor interfaces and measurements, and applying sensor data within engineering applications
  • Familiarity with basic sensors (e.g., temperature, strain gauge, pressure) or navigation sensors (e.g., GPS, MEMS IMU, radar systems)
  • Experience writing and executing test procedures in a requirements-based design and test verification environment
  • Background in core engineering disciplines, physics, or computer science
  • Experience with PLC-based machinery control systems or shipboard automation systems
  • Experience with maritime navigation systems, including integration of navigation sensors and display systems
  • Familiarity with surface vessel platforms and their unique integration challenges, including shipboard network architectures and system interoperability
  • Understanding of relevant maritime standards and naval system certification processes

Our Commitment to You:

  • An exciting career path with opportunities for continuous learning and development.
  • Research oriented work, alongside award winning teams developing practical solutions for our nation’s security
  • Flexible schedules with every other Friday off work, if desired (9/80 schedule)
  • Competitive benefits, including 401k matching, flex time off, paid parental leave, healthcare benefits, health & wellness programs, employee resource and social groups, and more
